PRACTICAL STEPS FOR MOVING TO ZERO EMISSION FLEETS
20 OCTOBER 2023
Following on from speaking at the GREENFLEET Emergency & MOD Fleet Event on 19 October, Matthew Dear recaps on some of the key steps he outlined for moving to Zero Emission fleets
Whilst the GREENFLEET event focused on emergency services & MOD fleets, the following steps apply to any fleets with demanding requirements.
1. Risk of Change
Let’s reframe this when it comes in board meetings by highlighting the Risk of No Change!!!
2. Holistic approach & priority
Zero Emission programmes impact all our assets & how we do business - so these programmes should be a treated as a core hashtag#priority.
3. Stakeholders & partnership
It’s really important to involve teams across your organisation – I highlighted Executive Champions, Property Colleagues, Fire Safety, Data Leads & Representative Bodies
4. Early Projects & Trials
Early projects are incredibly valuable for building in-house expertise and informing the development of future projects and the programme as a whole. Even 2 week trials are worthwhile, highlighting issues and opportunities that can't be fully appreciated in meetings or behind a desk
5. Phased approach
Let’s not focus on the final target, let’s break it down into a phased and structured approach. It minimises risk & helps build the most efficient, effective fleets.
6. Procurement
A "quick win" for orgs – ask for Zero Emission options (and charging reqs) with every project from now on!
7. Opportunity not a challenge
The shift to Zero Emission fleets is a real opportunity to develop the best in class fleet and also address some of the other key technical, operational & management questions you have wanted to address.
At BEAT we not only provide your analysis and strategic assessment – we are focused on innovation and the actions needed to enable change.
